Four Bowls are played by each player.

Australian Pairs allows both people on a team to play the role of Lead and Skip.

Pairs team members  nominate themselves as Lead and Skip.

In the first end of the game the Leads start off bowling 2 of their 4 bowls.

Leads and Skips then change ends and the Skips play all their 4 bowls.

Again, the Leads and Skips change ends and the Leads complete the end bowling their final 2 bowls.

This sequence is often called 2-4-2 where the Leads act as Lead and Skip in the same end.

 

In the next end the team who scores the most shots on the previous end plays first on the next end and decides on the position of the jack.

In addition, the roles are reversed.

The Skips lead off playing first, bowling 2 bowls.

Then the Leads bowls all their 4 bowls.

Then the skips complete the end with their final 2 bowls.

This alternating pattern continues throughout the game.

Leads lead off on odd ends and the Skips lead off on even ends.

Aside from the extra walking, in the Australian Pairs, the rules are the same

as a normal Pairs Game.
